Benefits of Yoga




The word Yoga means “union”, a joining together or “yoking” of the body, mind, and spirit, uniting all aspects and various layers of ourselves so we are able to experience our wholeness, integration and feel more joyous and peaceful in our everyday lives.

By moving slowly and mindfully while connecting to the healing power of our breath we learn to see ourselves as the “observer” to all that is and all that is changing, both in our inner and outer worlds - witnessing without attaching, judging or analyzing and consciously separating ourselves from all the stress and negativity that can weigh us down. Yoga works to create space where space is needed - physically, mentally and emotionally, removing tension, tightness, and the "obstructions" or blocks that keep us from realizing our true Divine nature which is inherently peaceful and spacious. Physically yoga improves our overall flexibility as well as strengthens our muscles and bones which leads to better posture, less aches, pains and injuries.

Yoga frees the breath and in doing so enhances our vitality and brings a heightened sense of awareness into our day to day lives enabling us to live with less friction and resistance to the ebb and flow of life and more harmony and contentment. The asanas, or physical postures, are an important part of the practice to bring the body into it's optimal alignment and get the kinks and tensions out that are built up over time simply by living in the world and going about our everyday tasks. Let's face it, the body needs maintenance and stress is inevitable. Overtime without undoing some of the physical and mental tensions they can really build up! It is essential that we take time to slow down and nourish our well-being - to take care of this incredible vehicle for the soul so that we can experience a full and happy life, awakening to our fullest potential, the highest version of ourselves and open the door to endless possibilities.
