Sissy St. John
Sissy St. John has been a student, teacher and lover of Yoga since stepping into her first yoga class 25 years ago. She blends a variety of styles into her teaching, always encouraging students “listen” inwardly to the wisdom of the body and to allow the practice to serve and support them where they are. She emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the breath through all her classes. Sissy also instructs guided Meditation and incorporates Pranayama techniques into practice to aid in focusing the mind and calming the nervous system.
In addition to yoga she is also a certified Aromatherapist and a Reiki Master. These two holistic modalities work beautifully together and she is grateful to be able to administer healing light to those in need. In 2020, after 18 years of working with YogaWorks on both the West coast and East coast, she launched her own online yoga business hosting weekly virtual classes and workshops. Her corporate clients, both live and virtual, include; The Museum of Natural History, JCC Manhattan, Columbia University and Chubb.
Sissy started her training in LA with the original founders of YogaWorks and in 2006 moved to New York to continue her study under the guidance and tutelage of Yogiraj Alan Finger, creator and founder of ISHTA Yoga. She later developed a love of Yin Yoga and greatly enjoys teaching and practicing this slow, grounding style of yoga.
Her certifications include: YogaWorks 500hr, Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500, Anusara Yoga, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga.
Prior to teaching yoga she was an ACE certified personal trainer with a specialty recognition in nutrition and worked with clients on implementing holistic wellness programs into their lives.
Her great hope and mission is to help give others the tools they need to create more harmony and space within the body, mind and heart in order to be able to ride the waves of life with a little more ease and equanimity.
Aside from yoga, her other great passions include making aromatherapy products, baking and cooking, and all things Japanese. Sissy lives in Long Island, NY with her husband, son and sweet little cat - Dancing Queen.
