
Sissy St. John
Sissy St. John fell in love with yoga in her early 20s, drawn to its graceful shapes, mindfulness of breath, and deep sense of calm it provided. Already on the path to wellness, it was an easy fit and more than two decades later, she remains a devoted student, teacher, and lifelong explorer of the practice. She draws inspiration from various lineages, blending a variety of styles into her teaching while always encouraging students to “listen” inwardly to the wisdom of their own unique body and to allow the practice to serve and support them where they are. She emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the breath through all her classes - as that is the foundation, as well as the bridge, that unites the body and mind. Sissy also guides Meditation and incorporates Pranayama techniques into every practice to create a calm, focused mindset while enabling the nervous system to regulate.

In addition to being a Yoga Therapist, Sissy is also a certified Clinical Aromatherapist (NAHA) and a Usui Reiki Master. These two holistic modalities work beautifully together and she often integrates them to further support physical, mental, and energetic well-being.

She began her yoga training in 1998 in Los Angeles, earning her first Anusara certification before advancing her studies with YogaWorks founders Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller. In 2006, following her intuition and in need of a life change, she moved to New York City to continue her studies under the personal guidance and tutelage of Yogiraj Alan Finger - creator and founder of ISHTA Yoga. During this time she also developed a love of Yin and Restorative Yoga and greatly enjoys teaching and practicing this slow, grounding style of yoga.

After 18 years teaching with YogaWorks on both coasts, Sissy launched her own online yoga and aromatherapy business in 2020. Currently, she offers weekly virtual and in-person classes (NYC), as well as specialized workshops, wellness events and personalized, private sessions.
Corporate clients have included: The American Museum of Natural History (ongoing), JCC Manhattan, Columbia University, Chubb and The Calder Foundation.

Certifications: E-RYT 500, Yoga Therapist C-IAYT, YogaWorks 500-hour, Anusara Yoga, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Restorative Yoga with Jillian Pransky. She is also a former ACE-certified personal trainer with a specialty in nutrition.

Sissy’s mission is to help others create more space, ease, and harmony in body, mind, and heart - so they can meet life’s waves with greater equanimity.
Beyond teaching yoga, she is passionate about formulating her aromatherapy products, painting with watercolors, cooking and baking, and exploring her interest in French and Japanese cultures.

She enjoys living in the quiet suburb of Syosset on Long Island, NY with her husband, son, and their sweet cat, Dancing Queen.
