Sissy St. John
Sissy St. John was first drawn to the graceful shapes and calming way of breathing yoga had to offer back in her early 20’s. Already on the path to wellness, it was an easy fit and she has been a teacher and lover of the sacred art, science and philosophy of Yoga since 1998. She blends a variety of styles into her teaching, always encouraging students to “listen” inwardly to the wisdom of the body and to allow the practice to serve and support them where they are. She emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the breath through all her classes. Sissy also instructs guided Meditation and incorporates Pranayama techniques into every practice to create a calm, focused mind while regulating the nervous system.
In addition to yoga she is also a certified Certified Aromatherapist (NAHA) and a Reiki Master. These two holistic modalities work beautifully together and she is grateful to be able to administer healing light to those in need.
Sissy started her training in LA with the original founders of YogaWorks and in 2006 moved to New York to continue her study under the guidance and tutelage of Yogiraj Alan Finger, creator and founder of ISHTA Yoga. She later developed a love of Yin Yoga and greatly enjoys teaching and practicing this slow, grounding style of yoga.
In 2020 (a year we ALL remember!) after 18 years of working with YogaWorks on both the East and West coast, studios closed their doors - some permanently, and she launched her own online yoga business. She continues to host weekly virtual classes and workshops as well as working one on one with private clientele. Her corporate clients, both live and virtual, include; The Museum of Natural History, JCC Manhattan, Columbia University and Chubb.
Her certifications include: YogaWorks 500hr, Yoga Alliance RYT 500, Anusara Yoga, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Restorative Yoga with Jillian Pransky and Yin Yoga. Currently she is working towards her certification as a Yoga Therapist through Soul of Yoga. Prior to teaching yoga she was an ACE certified personal trainer with a specialty recognition in nutrition and worked with clients on implementing holistic wellness programs into their lives.
Her great hope and mission is to help give others the tools they need to create more harmony and space within the body, mind and heart in order to navigate the waves of life with a little bit more ease and equanimity.
Aside from yoga, her other personal passions include making aromatherapy products, watercolor painting, baking, cooking, and all things Japanese. Sissy lives in Long Island, NY with her husband, son and sweet little cat - Dancing Queen.
