Sissy St. John

Sissy St. John was first drawn to the graceful shapes and calming way of breathing yoga had to offer back in her early 20’s. Already on the path to wellness, it was an easy fit and she has been a student, teacher and lover of yoga for over two decades. She draws inspiration from various lineages, blending a variety of styles into her teaching while always encouraging students to “listen” inwardly to the wisdom of their own unique body and to allow the practice to serve and support them where they are. She emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the breath through all her classes as that is the foundation, as well as the bridge, that unites the body and mind. Sissy also instructs guided Meditation and incorporates Pranayama techniques into every practice to create a calm, focused mindset while enabling the nervous system to regulate.

In addition to yoga she is also a certified, Clinical Aromatherapist (NAHA) and a Reiki Master. These two holistic modalities work beautifully together and she is grateful to be able to administer healing light to those in need.

Sissy first started her training in LA with the original founders of Yoga Works, Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller. In 2006, following her intuition and in need of a life change, she moved to New York to continue her studies under the personal guidance and tutelage of Yogiraj Alan Finger - creator and founder of ISHTA Yoga. During this time she also developed a love of Yin and Restorative Yoga and greatly enjoys teaching and practicing this slow, grounding style of yoga.

In 2020 (a year we ALL remember!) after 18 years of working with YogaWorks on both the East and West coast, studios closed their doors - some permanently, and she launched her own online yoga business. She continues to host weekly virtual classes and workshops as well as working one on one with private clientele. Her corporate clients, both live and virtual, include; The American Museum of Natural History, JCC Manhattan, Columbia University and Chubb.

Her certifications include: E- RYT 500, Yoga Works 500 hr, , Anusara Yoga, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga with renowned teacher Jillian Pransky. Currently she is working towards her certification as a Yoga Therapist through Soul of Yoga. Prior to teaching yoga she was an ACE certified personal trainer with a specialty recognition in nutrition and worked with clients on implementing holistic wellness programs into their lives.

Her great hope and mission is to help give others the tools they need to create more harmony and space within the body, mind and heart in order to navigate the waves of life with a little bit more ease and equanimity.

Aside from yoga, her other personal passions include making aromatherapy products, watercolor painting, baking, cooking, and all things Japanese.

Sissy lives in Long Island, NY with her husband, son and sweet little cat - Dancing Queen.
